Warsaw, Polish (April 7, 2008) /China Newswire/ — LOT Polish Airlines has decided to resume flights to the Far East starting with a direct flight between Warsaw and Beijing. The inaugural flight from Warsaw to Beijing was made on 2nd April 2008. Poland's national carrier returns to the Chinese market after nearly ten years' absence.

In view of the considerable growth of China's economy, the rapid development of the Polish market and the increasing economic cooperation and tourist exchange between Poland and the People's Republic of China, LOT Polish Airlines has decided to expand with new services its flight network with new services to Far Eastern destinations. The first of these will be a direct flight from Warsaw to Beijing.

"The launching of flights to Beijing is the first step towards expanding our long-distance flight network to include Far Eastern destinations" – said Wojciech Kadziolka, LOT spokesman. "We want to fly to the destinations our passengers want to go to. Due to the close economic relations between Asian countries and Poland as well as the rest of Europe and an ever-increasing number of tourists travelling to this region, the Far East seems a natural destination for LOT" – added Mr. Kadziolka.

LOT's flight service to Beijing provides the first direct connection between Poland and a Far Eastern country after almost 10 years of absence of the Polish national carrier in that part of the world. The convenient geographical location of Warsaw is ideal for transfer flights to and from West European airports. Flights from Warsaw will be operated three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Return flights from Beijing will be flown on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Initially the Warsaw – Beijing route will be served by the long-range Boeing 767s currently operated by LOT Polish Airlines. However, beginning from 2009 it will be taken over by the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

"Thanks to the Dreamliner we will be able to provide our passengers with a new quality of air travel and show them that even a long-distance flight to a faraway country such as China can be fast, pleasant and comfortable and also relatively inexpensive" – explained Wojciech Kadziolka.

LOT is one of the oldest airlines in the world. It has been connecting Poland with the rest of the world since 1929. Now planes in LOT livery fly to over 60 destinations in Europe, Middle East and North America. In 2006 LOT Group has carried over 5.7 million passengers. LOT fleet is one of the most modern in Europe. In 2009 LOT will become the first European airline to take delivery of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. LOT's pilots include many European and World Champions in all kinds of aviation sports. LOT belongs to the Star Alliance whose members fly over 16,000 flights every day to 855 airports in 155 countries all over the world.
