China's rise as an economic superpower has far reaching social and political implications shaping today’s global economy. Mr. Cullen’s talk will help listeners grasp the reasons behind China's ascendance, the positive and negative impact of its rise on China itself and the West, as well as the unique characteristics of the Chinese business environment for Western companies doing business in China. Terrence P. Cullen is Vice President of Development - China for Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, and is currently responsible for the overall planning and implementation of Wal-Mart's business growth in China, including oversight of real estate acquisitions, building design and construction matters. From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Cullen was Director of International Real Estate for The Home Depot, where he was responsible for Home Depot's international expansion plans in China, Mexico and Central America. From 1999 to 2006, Mr. Cullen served as Corporate Counsel for Costco Wholesale Corporation, where he was responsible for Costco’s international legal affairs and real estate development in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China, Mexico and the U.K. From 1984 to 1999 Mr. Cullen was in private law practice specializing in international business matters. He holds a J.D. degree from Cornell University School of Law and currently resides in Shenzhen, China.
The Shenzhen Asian Culture Society is a non-profit organization working to strengthen relationships, promote understanding and provide cultural enrichment for the Shenzhen community. We seek to increase knowledge, enhance dialogue, encourage creative expression, and generate new ideas across the fields of Asian culture, encompassing history, the arts, economics and education. Current projects include a Lecture Series, discussion groups, educational trips and other relevant activities. We welcome people from all backgrounds.
