New Appointment

 

Shanghai, China (October 22, 2007) /China Newswire/ — Having acquired a wealth of hospitality experience in seven countries over the past two decades, Michel L. Goget has been appointed to helm The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya as general manager. The 450-room resort, which is the first China resort in the company, is slated for a December 2007 opening in Yalong Bay, Hainan Province.

Goget began his career with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. in 1999 at The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia, where he embarked on a 35-day General Manager Fast Track Training Program. In November that year, he was named General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn in Dearborn, Michigan and subsequently joined The Ritz-Carlton, Tyson's Corner in McLean, Virginia in the same capacity; a position he held prior to his current appointment.

Before joining The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Goget held several general manager and senior executive positions for 10 years in Dolce International, Europe; Disneyland Paris, Marriott Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group, Sheraton Hotels, Hotel Loews Monte Carlo/Fairmont and Marco Beach Hotel and Villas in Florida. Under his stewardship, The Ritz-Carlton, Tyson's Corner was awarded "Keys to Luxury – Transient Sales Team of the Year 2005″ and "Meetings and Special Events Leader of the Year for the North-east/Mid-west Region 2005." Additional recognition included "Nomination for Host Hotels and Resorts General Manager of the Year for Large Hotels" and "Host Hotels and Resorts Sales and Marketing Award for Large Hotels" both in 2004 and 2006.

Goget also lent his expertise as an opening and task force member with The Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Tokyo, Dearborn and Washington, D.C.; Euro Disney, Newport Bay Club Hotel, Paris and Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Florida, to name a few.

Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in International Hotel Management from Florida International University in Miami, Florida and a degree from the College d'Enseignement Technique Hotelier in St. Amand Montrond, France, Goget was an advisory board member of the James Madison University, School of Hospitality in 2004 and 2006. He was also a guest lecturer at Virginia Tech School of Business, ESSEC/Cornell, Paris, New York University, Georgia State University and Florida International University.

To support the growing hospitality industry in Sanya, Goget was recently appointed Vice Director of the Sanya Hotel Association. The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya will be the fifth resort opening for Goget.
